I have to admit that I really drug my feet about reading “Wool,” and to tell you the truth I really have no good reason for doing so. But the first and second books are damn near perfect. The only downside were some parts of how the consequences were structured and the not as good ending. I don’t recommend reading the synopsis either because ye need to be surprised. I can’t get into major details because that would spoil everything. It kept me guessing and I was thoroughly engrossed during the reading process. This book was filled with twists and turns and tensions. The writing is fantastic, the world building exciting, and the characters exquisite. This series is one of the best dystopians that I have ever read.

Or as I like to think of them – questions, answers, and consequences.

So this trilogy is made up of the books called wool, shift, and dust. Please note that I write like I talk and the first mate writes like he thinks. So you get one from me and a bonus additional review from me crew. We were talking about the books and I enjoyed his viewpoint so I ordered asked him to write a review. Books the first mate introduced to me included xom-b, holes, and the perks of being a wallflower. Not being a purist will likely serve me well, too, with the SILO series.Ahoy there mateys! Though the first mate and I have very different reading tastes, occasionally we do recommend books to each other. I’m not a purist, which is probably why I liked it as much as I did. The visuals and production quality were amazing. I thought AppleTV+ did an excellent job with their new Foundation series based on Isaac Asimov’s book series.

Though, I still have Across the Sand about halfway down my ‘to be read’ pile and look forward to reading it. So I am glad that Wool is the first of Howey’s series headed to the small screen. While it was fast-paced and imaginative, it did not have the same depth as the Wool trilogy. His books and stories scratch the same itch as John Scazli’s books. I always look forward to Hugh Howey’s writing, and while the SILO trilogy gets all of the press, his other stories are also fun. Eventually, the main characters discover the truth of their situation and unravel the hidden secrets proving just how far some people will go to stay in control. What’s left of the human race is living in a Silo that stretches 144 levels underground. Wool takes place during a post-apocalyptic period on Earth. After Wool grew into a novel, it became a trilogy that spawned Howey’s meteoric career. He then independently published each chapter on Amazon’s Kindle platform. Howey became one of the first hugely successful self-published authors when he took his debut story Wool, which he wrote while working as a bookstore clerk and first published by a small press in 2011.
